The Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday immediately before Ascension Day
(May 1) have for many centuries been associated with planting crops and praying for favorable weather and a bountiful harvest. While there is much
history regarding these days that space will not allow me to delve into, the observance of "rogation days" has a three-fold emphasis: 1) petition for
forgiveness of sins, 2) petition for protection from calamities, and 3) petition for bountiful crops. The spiritual lesson of the observance of these
days is that God and humanity are cooperators in the creative processes of agriculture, that tilling and care of the soil are humanity's God-given tasks
and privilege, that human life depends upon God's goodness in quickening the life-giving power in the sown see, which results in the return to us of the
bounty of the earth. On Sunday, May 4, we will be observe Rogationtide with a special procession into the outdoors for special prayers and a blessing. The Rite of Confirmation, May 11, 11 a.m.
Four ninth grade confirmation students are preparing to affirm the faith into which they were baptized. On Sunday, May 11, during Holy Communion at
11 a.m., Kari Boyum, Jackie Story, Lauren Mallory, and Amanda Chicos will participate in the Rite of Confirmation. Please remember them, and their families, in your prayers.
Senior Recognition, May 18, 8:30 a.m. Sunday, May 18, is Senior Recognition Sunday (8:30 a.m.). The service will be led by youth minister, Carmen Nesseth. Graduating high school seniors
will participate. They include: Kristin Boyum, Andrew Dyrdahl, Tyler
Eggert, Chelsea Jones-Thomas, Evan Hiner, Amy Lang, Michael Luna, Richard Monaghan, and Tim Vieths. God bless them on their way with countless gifts of love!
